Happy Christmas everyone!

Hope everyone who celebrates is having a good holiday!
I am visiting with family for the weekend, and it's COLD up here!! It even snowed a little this morning...fortunately it didn't stick. I like it when it's falling, but I don't want to be out in it!
I have been working on some crafty things for Christmas gifts, wine and margarita glasses, horse brushes, and holiday ornaments.
This is a dandy brush I painted on for a secret santa gift...unfortunately my car died, so I never got to the party and still have the brush in question.
So hopefully everyone is eating way too much food and drinking just a little too much eggnog!
I will post again soon, I promise :)

slight change of direction

I mentioned in my last post that I'd been feeling very French. This is still true, but as my printer has been broken, I have been unable to get any reference photos for what I'd like to paint. I really would like to do a piece or two on the Moulin Rouge, but that is going to have to wait.
In the mean time, I've been painting on recycled wood to sell on Etsy, and I finished a crab that I had been working on.
The crab is oils on canvas. I think I love him.

Paris, part deux.

Lately, I've had wanderlust. I want to travel, I want to see new places, meet new people. I want to visit friends, family, eat local food, and drink local wine.
My heart, however, tells me I should go back to Paris. I feel a pull, and maybe it's just in my blood, my heritage. Some people claim that Paris is dirty...I have not found that at all. I love the cobblestone streets, the street performers, the sound of an accordion in the metro. I love paying with coins, eating crepes, and living in the Latin Quarter at Hotel Eugenie. I could spend weeks in Montmartre, wandering around the streets and talking with artists.
As I'm so drawn to this area, I've decided I should incorporate that into my paintings. So here it is, painting number two in my Paris series. This is called "Paris at Night"
Oils on Canvas.

More new art :)

So since we've talked last, I've done quite a few new pieces...mostly in oil paints.
I've been working in oils a lot lately. I'm creating art that lends itself to hanging in a gallery. I've been really enjoying the texture of palette knife work.

This piece was inspired by my father, and may or may not be hanging in his office by now. It is my first exploration back into oil paints. I received a present from my mother...a travel paint box that was custom made for her. When I got it, I found there was still quite a bit of paint in it. I decided to try them out, see if they were still usable.
The answer is "yes." I have been painting with 30 year old oil paints. This is back when Cadmium Red was $2.77 for a tube. I love it.

New art!!

So I think it's pretty obvious I'm not great with this updating daily thing, as I'm supposed to be. I got busy, what with Rocky Horror, work, and being sick (yay February plague!) I haven't been art-ing as much as I should. I sat down today and did a bit of work, and this is what I came up with.

I'm trying to get back to my more colorful and whimsical style that I loved so much. I seem to have really strayed from that in the past few years, and I am not happy with having done so. So here you have it. The start of a new (old) thing.

First blog post!

Hey guys, I'm not entirely sure how this whole blog thing works, but I'll give it a try!

I have been working pretty heavily on my art lately, I've produced a decent bit in the past few weeks. It has been mostly pastels on colored paper.

My most recent project was a label for some local alcohol. It's called "Mom's Apple Pie" I don't have a photo yet of the label on the bottle, but here's a copy of the finished label.
